Genesis Nature Reserve and Rainbow Waterfall

After a rich breakfast with tea and toast with peanut butter and guava jam we went for Scarborough with our rented car. We actually wanted to see Fort George but couldn’t find it – plus I didn’t have the nerves for the traffic. So we went on.

For 200TT$ (aprox. 30US$) we stopped at the “Genesis Nature Park”. This is a small self-proclaimed zoo where we could see life versions of the favourite meat of Tobagonians – and therefore almost extinguished – agoutis and collared peccaries. Actually it was quite interesting to talk to one of the locals but I’m not sure if it was worth the money.

Luckily he described us the way to the rainbow waterfall. Otherwise I’m pretty sure we would have missed the little road going there. Another 200TT$ later we got a detailed instruction how to find the waterfall. It was not too hard to find: right after crossing the river turn left and follow the path. The next time you come to the river walk along or through it to the left until you find a way out on the right side. Follow the path again and simply cross the river a third time. When you come upon the river a fourth time, do as you did the second time. Walk a bit more and you are there… Simple, isn’t it?

It was a walk of about half an hour in the midst of the rain forest, partly quite muddy. But we didn’t have much problems finding the waterfall. And it was quite beautiful! We could swim there and – maybe because of the long way – we were all alone.

Back in the apartment we cooked dinner – pasta with shrimps, salmon and local herbal sauce. Yummy!

Zoo Schönbrunn

We’ve been to the zoo today. As it was a holiday today we weren’t alone – not at all! Even though the weather was not very friendly lots of people were there. We enjoyed a lot today’s otter feeding and then we watched the tiger feeding.

Zoo, Aqua Terra Zoo and Photo of the Week 18

Last week Isabel came to visit us and of course we went to the zoo. Thursday we went to Schönbrunn zoo, where the flamingoes and turtles seemed to have spring feelings:

The next day we went to the Aqua Terra Zoo which was even cooler. Plus on top of the building we had a fabulous view over Vienna!

Zoo and Schweizerhaus

Evi and I visited the zoo Schönbrunn today. Before leaving Evi bought a huge stuffed frog and then we went over to Schweizerhaus in the Prater. There we drank lots of beer and met with Gerhard, Conny, David and Bernhard. Finally Conny and I took a ride on world’s highest chairoplane (117m high) and then I rode some other attractions I haven’t been on in a long time.

Walking through Schönbrunn

(Deutsch) Serengeti Park Hodenhagen

Als Überraschung für David und weil so ein wunderschönes Wetter vorausgesagt war sind wir Samstag nach Hodenhagen zum Serengeti-Park gefahren. Der Serengeti-Park ist so ähnlich wie der Safaripark Gänserndorf mal war, nur gibt es noch zusätzlich zum Park den man mit dem Auto befahren kann, noch einen begehbaren Affenpark, einen Wasserpark und einen Freizeitpark. Natürlich können die Hochschaubahnen da nicht mit denen im Phantasialand oder anderen großen Freizeitparks mithalten, aber es war trotzdem sehr witzig!
Am Besten war aber immer noch der Serengeti Park selber. Die Tiere dort sind sooo neugierig, dass man gut daran tut, die Fenster geschlossen zu halten. Wobei, bei den Affen reicht nicht einmal das. Die benutzen die Autos als Mitfahrgelegenheit und versuchen dabei gleich einen Scheibenwischer abzubrechen. Aber zum Glück war ich mit dem Firmenwagen dort. Das hätte sicher einen netten Schadensbericht abgegeben: “Affe hat meinen Scheibenwischer gegessen…”. Naja, schließlich hat der Pavian dann doch von meinem Auto abgelassen und den BMW hinter uns auseinandergenommen.
Aber nicht nur die Affen waren sehenswert – am Liebsten hatte ich ja die Giraffen. So groß habe ich mir die Tiere gar nicht vorgestellt, aber unter denen kann David durchlaufen ohne sich den Kopf zu stoßen.
Am neugierigsten war dann aber doch ein freches Lama. Das hat gleich seinen Kopf und den ganzen Hals (der bei Lamas auch eine enorme Länge hat) bei uns ins Auto gesteckt. Als es in der Mittelkonsole kein Futter gefunden hat, hat es sich dann meinem Gesicht zugewandt. Ich bin mir aber noch immer nicht sicher, ob es mir nur ein Bussi geben wollte, die Sonnenbrille stehlen oder mir ins Auge spucken. Das Gaspedal hat mich davor bewahrt, herauszufinden was genau das Lama von mir wollte…
Wir sind einmal morgens (so um zehn, halb elf) durch den Park gefahren, dann in den Freizeitpark gegangen um zu essen und die Hochschaubahnen anzusehen. Danach sind wir durchs Affenland gegangen. Zum Glück haben sie uns nicht dort behalten. Auch dort gibt es ein Paviangehege, mit vielen Affenbabies. Auch hier wurde vor Diebstahl gewarnt. Vor allem seine Brillen sollte man wegstecken und persönliche Gegenstände festhalten, denn vor den Affen ist nichts wirklich sicher.
Auch gibt es im Serengeti Park einen “Affen-Tunnel”. Das kann man sich genauso vorstellen, wie den Aquariumtunnel in Schönbrunn. Man kann unter den Affen durchlaufen. Der Nachteil ist nur, dass die Tierchen über einem sitzen und auf dem Maschendraht einen Heimvorteil haben (auch die Gravitation hilft mit), wenn es darum geht den neugierigen Leuten einfach auf den Kopf zu pinkeln! Wir haben die prikäre Lage gleich erkannt und sind im Slalom durch die Gefahrenzonen geschlichen. Anderen erging es nicht so gut…
Auf jeden Fall kann ich den Park jedem wärmstens empfehlen, der Tiere mag und keine Angst um sein Auto hat.
