Goodbye Germany, Welcome Austria!

Arbeit / Work - 2 years ago - cheesy

My last days in Vechta! I can’t believe it! Today I stopped by in the base to leave my business cards – wine bottles with my phone number on. I realized that I’m gonna miss my colleagues a lot… The whole afternoon David and I spent packing. Now it’s impossible to go to the balcony cause the boxes are blocking the door. Only stuff I want to take to Vienna is still left. Tomorrow David and I will go to the CeBIT in Hannover, Friday evening will be my goodbye party and on Saturday I’ll drive home! Finally!

Christmas party

Arbeit / Feste / Seasonal / Work - 5 years ago - cheesy

Yesterday night was the SLB Christmas Party in a Restaurant in Vechta. Schlumberger filled a whole ballroom! The music was a bit boring in the beginning but after some hours we could finally convince the DJ to play younger music – and finally he managed to play good music and the party lasted until 3:30 in the morning! We didn’t like to go back home then, but the restaurant finally closed and we moved on to Wunderbar, a discotheque in Vechta.

First Job!

Arbeit / Work - 5 years ago - cheesy

This weekend I’ve been to my first two jobs! On Saturday we drove four hours by car to get to a well in the middle of nowhere. Emily, my mentor, gave me one objective to fulfil: get dirty! And that’s what I did. The operators helped me with that quite well: Uwe was standing next to me, grinning, and said: “Well, I’d REALLY like to help you, but boss said, I’m not allowed to!”, while I was kneeling in the dirt on the platform screwing together the tools. ;) But I’m really happy about that. It was a lot of fun and I managed to learn a lot!
On Sunday we’ve been on another job north-west of Bremen, closer to the north sea. I didn’t work as much as the day before, but with all the rain and mud I finally was quite dirty, too! They told me, I look as happy as a pig in the shit! ;)

First impressions

Arbeit / Work - 5 years ago - cheesy

After beeing here for about a week, I still love it! The location here is absolutely great! My manager is really nice, my mentor competent, the operators are a lot of fun… Still everything’s a bit complicating, though. Everything is named in TLAs (three-letter acronyms) – all the tools, all the functions, everything! In the meetings I just sit and listen to all this TLAs, understanding nothing.
I got a house, too! I live in a male staff house together with a Rumanian and a Russian guy. The house is right opposite the train station and close to the center of Vechta.
On the weekend I will finally see a job. We’re going on a rig to do some logging and I will be involved in all the work the operators usually do. My first impressions here: great colleagues, great job!

Schlumberger OFS-1

Arbeit / Work - 5 years ago - cheesy

One week in Paris in the beginner’s seminar of the oil service company Schlumberger and you know what? I still love it! Together with 53 young people, who just graduated from university (at least most of them) I’m enjoying lectures about security, safety, health, quality and so on. No one of us, though, knows what to expect of the job. Everyone tells you that you will have a hard time, with a lot of responsibility, no sleep and so on but on the other hand you see all those people, who are working for this company and most of them just don’t look different than you do. They might even be not much older than you. And you wonder if they are tougher than you, more intelligent than you and you just can’t decide, if you’re the right person for this job. During the seminar we get up at 6 in the morning and go to bed at midnight or later and listen to lectures for 8 hours a day, even on Saturday! Nevertheless it’s a lot of fun! I love it!
