Finally we did a little trip. We went on a bike tour (18 km) along the Old and New Danube river. We watched the water skiers and enjoyed the sun!

Biking to Work – You’re doing it wrong!

First I was very happy to be able to bike to work again. But lately – for various reasons – I didn’t get around to it at all. Yesterday I wanted to bike again and when fetching the bike from the terrace, I noticed that some kind of vine had ranked over it. Cheeky bastard! It inspired me for the following poster in the tradition of memebase and Despair Inc.:

“Biking to Work – You’re doing it wrong!”

Castle Finstergrün

Last weekend David and I spent at the castle Finstergrün. This is a really beautiful castle in Salzburg, halfway up a hill with a great view over Mur river valley – especially out of the fourth floor where we had our room. The only disadvantage was that we had to walk up 97 stairs to our room, the showers were on the ground floor… The first day this was not a big problem but on day two we went hiking – 20 kilometers, 500 m altitude difference and of course we were not used to hiking at all. Hiking up was not a problem yet, but hiking back down was! After horrible two kilometers almost vertical down some meadows practically polluted with thistles and stinging nettles we were deadly tired. The 97 steps to our room were only manageable because we desperately needed a shower and a bed.

In the evening David and I kept the BBQ short and went to bed instead. The next morning I had another appointment at 10. Uli, Ines and I went rafting. 15 kilometers down the river Mur – only a few rapids but two nice stops. At stop one we could swim through a rapid and at stop two we jumped down a five meter high cliff. So much fun!

Castle Kreuzenstein

We were brave today and brought our bikes out from their winter’s sleep into the sunlight to make a short tour (10km one way) to Castle Kreuzenstein and back. From Klosterneuburg we took the ferry over the Danube to Korneuburg and then we followed the bike trail to the castle. A very nice treck with a little bit of a slope in the beginning and in the end.

On Kreuzenstein we first entered the local restaurant Burgwirt to eat the best spare ribs and chicken wings ever! Afterwards we watched the falcons, eagles, vultures and owls show how wonderful they can fly and hunt their prey!
